How to View These Images
These are stereo pairs designed for parallel free-viewing. Here's how to view them:
- Position yourself centrally in front of the image pair on your screen.
- Relax your eyes and look "through" the screen, as if focusing on something far behind it.
- You should initially see the two images double into four images.
- Try to gently converge the middle two images until they overlap perfectly, forming a third, central image in 3D.
- Hold that focus. It might take practice! The diagram below illustrates the eye paths.
Tips:
- Try adjusting your distance from the screen for optimal viewing.
- Start with smaller images if you're new to this technique.
- Ensure the image pair is level horizontally.
- Important: The distance between the centers of the left and right images should ideally be no more than your eye separation (around 6-7 cm). If the pair looks too wide, zoom out in your browser (Ctrl/Cmd + Minus) to reduce the size.
Other Viewing Methods
- Cross-viewing: If the left/right images were swapped, you would cross your eyes slightly. These images are not set up for cross-viewing.
- Stereo Viewers: Devices like Google Cardboard, OWL Viewers, or Holmes-style viewers can be used if the images are properly formatted for them.
